Positions, Requirements, & Compensation


Tutor / Mentor

As a tutor/mentor, staff members assist students in becoming independent learners. In the role of a tutor, staff members may assist with clarifying concepts, answering questions, offering direction, and giving examples to enhance understanding and ultimately enable the student to experience success when working independently. As mentors, staff members assist students in building the skills needed for academic success such as organization, time management, motivation, study skills, and academic confidence. *This is a single position. Placement as tutor or mentor is based on need of student-athletes.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Minimum 3.0 or above cumulative ECU GPA
  • Minimum of 1 full time 4-year semester completed, or hold a degree (e.g., Associates, Bachelor’s, etc.)
  • Two academic references
  • Able to serve as an academic and personal role model

Compensation:

  • Undergraduate: $11/hour
  • Graduate: $15/hour

Assistant Learning Specialist

As assistant learning specialists, staff members aid student-athletes with developing and improving academic skills to become self-regulated learners. These skill areas may include reading, writing, time management organizational skills, note-taking skills, and test preparation. Assistant learning specialists also facilitate accountability by overseeing students’ completion of tasks. *Must be a junior or above to be considered for this position.

Applicant Requirements

  • Minimum 3.2 or above cumulative ECU GPA
  • Minimum 1 full time 4-year semester completed, or hold a degree (e.g., Associates, Bachelor’s, etc.)
  • Two academic references
  • Able to serve as an academic and personal role model

Compensation:

  • Undergraduate: $13/hour
  • Graduate: $16/hour

Study Hall Monitor

As study hall monitors, staff members are responsible for conducting study halls according to the guidelines established by the Office of Student-Athlete Academic Services. Monitors are expected to accurately monitor for attendance, enforce firm limits and act as an authority figure. *3.0 GPA is preferred, but other experience will be considered.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Minimum 3.0 or above cumulative ECU GPA, preferred
  • Minimum 1 full time 4-year semester completed, or hold a degree (e.g., Associates, Bachelor’s, etc.)
  • Two academic references
  • Able to serve as an academic and personal role model

Compensation:

  • Undergraduate: $9/hour
  • Graduate: $10/hour

Note: Students may work a total of 25 hours in all combinations of campus employment.
